Default DVD Verdict reviews: YU-GI-OH!: THE MOVIE, LOCKED UP, and more!

Today, DVD Verdict posted reviews of THE BEAR AND THE DOLL, THE BEST OF
GAY BRITAIN, BLACK BEAUTY, BURIED IN THE SAND: THE DECEPTION OF AMERICA,
GEORGE W. BUSHISMS, GETTING IT ON!, GUNHED, A HANDFUL OF DUST, LOCKED
UP, NWF KIDS PRO WRESTLING SUMMER SIZZLER EXTRAVAGANZA, THE PHANTOM OF
THE OPERA (1989), and YU-GI-OH!: THE MOVIE:

THE BEAR AND THE DOLL (reviewed by Jesse Ataide, overall score 10/100):
"Screenwriter Nina Companeez comes up with several great gags, including
a hilarious scene that allows Bardot to imitate a sex-crazed playboy,
but the proceedings quickly become tiring as the couple's exchanges grow
increasingly lame."

THE BEST OF GAY BRITAIN (reviewed by George Hatch, overall score
60/100):
"You can go to Amazon's marketplace and buy a new copy of Like It Is for
a reasonable twenty dollars, the average price of an indie import -- and
you'll get more than your money's worth of excellent acting, direction,
and a story that will hit you with all the power of a bare-knuckled
punch in the face."

BLACK BEAUTY (reviewed by Rob Lineberger, overall score 42/100):
"I was hoping that this would be an innocuous, rousing tale that I could
watch with my son. What I got was a lukewarm, rather gruesome, and
mostly aimless hodgepodge of uninspired drudgery."

BURIED IN THE SAND: THE DECEPTION OF AMERICA (reviewed by Maurice Cobbs,
overall score 0/100):
"I already thought that terrorists were barbaric. Buried in the Sand
only makes me think that the people at Westlake Entertainment are
barbaric as well."

GEORGE W. BUSHISMS (reviewed by Maurice Cobbs, overall score 40/100):
"Some of the president's gaffes are really quite funny -- ask him, and
he'll tell you. In regard to what may be his most famous slip of the
tongue, 'Rarely is the question asked: Is our children learning?' Bush
explains, with a twinkle in his eye, 'Let us analyze that sentence for a
moment. If you're a stickler, you probably think the singular verb 'is'
should have been the plural 'are.' But if you read it closely, you'll
see I'm using the intransitive plural subjunctive tense. So the word
'is' are correct.'"

GETTING IT ON! (reviewed by David Johnson, overall score 64/100):
"I suppose the only group that would embrace the 90 minutes or so of
suck that Getting it On! provides will be political prisoners in North
Korea seeking a brief respite from hours of brutal torture."

GUNHED (reviewed by Joel Pearce, overall score 35/100):
"Live action anime is generally a bad idea unless you have a production
designer with a keen eye, a visionary director, and a huge budget.
Gunhed has none of these things, and fails completely on every level."

FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/gunhed.php

A HANDFUL OF DUST (reviewed by Diane Wild, overall score 64/100):
"Throughout the 1988 film, odd characters pop up and disappear without
leaving much of a trace. Even without reading the book, it's obvious
that the whole story didn't make it onscreen."

FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/handfuldust.php

LOCKED UP (reviewed by George Hatch, overall score 9/100):
"Provocative gym routines, trysts between cellmates (and their security
guards) abound, as do the requisite naked showers -- and, in this
prison, everyone is more than willing to 'drop the soap.'"

FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/lockedup.php

NWF KIDS PRO WRESTLING SUMMER SIZZLER EXTRAVAGANZA (reviewed by David
Johnson, overall score 40/100):
"Yes, this disc has the kind of 'I-have-never-before-seen-crazy-ass-crap-like-
this' effect that you'd get from gazing at the flaming wreckage of a ten-clown-
car pileup, but will that wear off?"

FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/nwfkids.php

THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA (1989) (reviewed by Patrick Naugle, overall
score 65/100):
"1989's The Phantom of the Opera, a retelling of Gaston Leroux's
famous chiller, is about as artistic and exciting as an episode of
Full House. Come to think of it, had this movie featured Bob Saget and
the guy who played Uncle Joey, the filmmakers may have really had
something special."

YU-GI-OH!: THE MOVIE (reviewed by Mitchell Hattaway, overall
score 30/100):
"Why would a god -- a god of death, no less -- need to concern himself
with a card game? I'm willing to accept Death playing chess -- or even
Battleship -- but this is ridiculous."
