Default DVD Verdict reviews: HARRY POTTER AND THE PRISONER OF AZKABAN and more!

Today, DVD Verdict posted reviews of THE BATTLE OF ALGIERS: CRITERION
COLLECTION, CRAZY LOVE, DOCTOR ZHIVAGO: SPECIAL EDITION, DORA THE
EXPLORER: DORA'S CHRISTMAS, GOODFELLAS: SPECIAL EDITION, HARRY POTTER
AND THE PRISONER OF AZKABAN, THE HEBREW HAMMER, MICKEY'S TWICE UPON A
CHRISTMAS, RAISING HELEN, SAVED!, and WHO'S THAT KNOCKING AT MY DOOR:

THE BATTLE OF ALGIERS: CRITERION COLLECTION (reviewed by Bill Gibron,
overall score 96/100):
"On the outside, revolution is seen as a necessary evil aided by a sense
of ethical imperative, while terrorism reeks of corruption and cruelty.
Or is it the other way around?"

CRAZY LOVE (reviewed by Rob Lineberger, overall score 88/100):
"By the time you figure out that Crazy Love is the kind of film you
might not choose to be watching, you're already invested. It is like
when your mother distracted you with lollipops while the doctor plunged
the syringe into your arm."

DOCTOR ZHIVAGO: SPECIAL EDITION (reviewed by Mike Pinsky, overall
score 79/100):
"The Marxist ideal of brotherhood, the tension between the covert
support of Yevgraf and Yuri's betrayals of two women? Yuri's inability
to act on anything because of his paralyzing desire to avoid making
decisions? All these are glossed over by the film, which distracts us
with its lush landscapes, rich music, and puppy-dog eyes."

DORA THE EXPLORER: DORA'S CHRISTMAS (reviewed by David Packard, overall
score 77/100):
"Parents will enjoy the educational aspects (identifying gifts by color
and picture, identifying and counting cold weather clothing in Backpack,
and shape recognition). Even Swiper's heart grows three sizes when he
learns of Dora's mission. This is one of the best Christmas-themed
episodes of any children's series I've seen."

GOODFELLAS: SPECIAL EDITION (reviewed by Mike Pinsky, overall
score 97/100):
"This is as much Scorsese's story as it is Henry's, a summation of all
his stylistic bravado, explorations of working-class male identity, and
sheer love of language that came before (and probably since)."

FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/goodfellasse.php

HARRY POTTER AND THE PRISONER OF AZKABAN (reviewed by David Johnson,
overall score 92/100):
"Goblet of Fire officially made Harry Potter my pimp, and now I consider
myself a belated member of HP fandom. I owe much of this to Alfonso
Cuaron's excellent on-screen transformation of this pivotal book in the
series (though I suppose an argument can be made that all of these books
are 'pivotal')."

THE HEBREW HAMMER (reviewed by Paul Corupe, overall score 80/100):
"The Hebrew Hammer is the greatest 'Jewsploitation' film ever made -- a
feat that might actually be impressive if it weren't also the only
Jewsploitation film ever made."

FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/hebrewhammer.php

MICKEY'S TWICE UPON A CHRISTMAS (reviewed by Lacey Worrell, overall
score 90/100):
"Disney has long been the leader when it comes to picture and sound
quality in family entertainment, as well as value in terms of included
extras, even on their lower-profile releases. Mickey's Twice Upon a
Christmas is no exception."

FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/mi...nchristmas.php

RAISING HELEN (reviewed by Diane Wild, overall score 50/100):
"There are too many times we have to accept that everything will be as
difficult as possible, because the characters are too dumb to exist in
the real world and characteristics they possess in one scene will vanish
the next."

FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/raisinghelen.php

SAVED! (reviewed by David Ryan, overall score 89/100):
"Saved! does not 'mock' religion, it merely points out that any firmly-
held belief system -- be it Christianity, Notre Dame football, or Star
Wars -- can be exploited, misinterpreted, or somehow bent out of shape
under certain circumstances."

WHO'S THAT KNOCKING AT MY DOOR (reviewed by Dan Mancini, overall
score 81/100):
"Who's That Knocking at My Door may be a simple story told without much
elegance, but there's a sense its emotion and psychology are true to the
young man who told it."
