Hi

I can backup R2 discs but not R1. My drive is R2 and I read somewhere that
the drive region can only be changed 5 times. How can I get over this and be
able to do R1.

If you get a program called anydvd version 3.9 or above you can run this in
the background and it will let you play dvds on say power dvd without
chaging your drive region and also it will let you back up dvds region 1-8
whatever

Is it true that each time I do this I shorten the life of my DVD player?
What I mean is that I have read that this can only be done 5 times before
the drive is locked to that last region.

No, I mean BACKUP! Not steal. If the kids get hold of the original and use
it as a frisbee and something to slide across the floor on, it is buggered!
Backup, not steal. Besides I think you should get glasses as the word steal
did not appear in the original post. You are allowed to make 1 BACKUP of the
dvd provided you own the original.

You are?

If the kids are not responsible enough to respect the dvds, they dont touch
them. Its a simple concept but for some reason some of you parents just
dont seem to understand. My 3 and 5 year olds have NEVER damaged one dvd.

Yes, you are. This is a legal precedent that hasn't been overturned just
yet.

Why do you insist on making unwarranted judgemental assumptions about other
parents? He said IF the kids get hold of... Are you going to sit there and
tell me that your kids have never gotten their hands on anything they should
not have, ever? Kids are kids, and we parents aren't magic genies. For all
our efforts, they will eventually do things you didn't want them to, even if
you took measures to prevent it. But you already know this if you're
involved with your kids at all.

Thanks for that Mike. I think if was going to try and do what some might
think, ie make copies and sell, that I would already have the knowledge of
how and where.
