Are the HardDisk DVD Recorders better for tv show recording/playback ?

A lot more expensive than the dvdrw ones?

I think so since they hold many hours of programs and give you PVR
functionality and you don't have to swpa out full DVDs to record more
shows.

Yes, around twice the price. My Toshiba can record at 38 different
bitrates from 1.4 to 9.2Gb/s, which equates to 1 to 6 hours on a DVD
or 18 to 106 hours on the 80G hard disc. It records on DVD-R, DVD-RW,
and DVD-RAM.

But the biggest advantage to a hard disc is that I able to record to
the hard disc, then delete any unwanted segments, place chapter
marks, organize as titles, reduce bit rates, and only then commit it
to DVD-R. Well worth the additional cost for me as I have converted
many, many hours of irreplaceable camcorder video to DVD-R.

They let you record more without having to swap discs. You can also
edit programs (remove the commercials) before burning them to DVD.

Right, because that's what you're going to use them for. Thieves are really
getting lazy these days.
