I just purchased Elton John: Dream Ticket yesterday at Best Buy.
It was on sale for $29.99. I just watched the set and it is outstanding.
This is quite a showcase of a man with unbelievable talent. If you
don't know about this set, it consists of four discs. The first
three are of three different concerts, each of which is outstanding
in different ways.
Disk one is "Greatest Hits - One Night Only"
(Madison Square Garden). It lasts for 2hrs20+ minutes. It is
an all out theatrical show, with special guests.
Disk two is "The Royal Opera House" (London). It is with full
orchestra and choir (James Newton Howard conducting) and
it contains some beautiful arrangements. It is the first time he
has performed an orchestral concert in over 20 years.
Disk three is at "Ephesus - The Great Amphitheater" (Turkey).
It is a solo performance; just Elton and his piano. It is
amazing.
Disk four is "Elton in Four Decades"
It is a program of footage, music and interviews from the
70's, 80's, 90's and 00's.
The video and sound on the first three discs are excellent.
The video is even more so on discs 2 and 3, as it is very
crisp and sharp. The sound is outstanding in the 5.1,
especially "cranked up". The fourth disc is obviously
from many different sources, periods and the quality
varies. It is not a sonic experience, but is quite interesting.
If you are a fan of Elton John, I highly recommend this set.
I don't think is still on sale, after the holiday weekend, but
it may be. Even at the non-sale price of $39.99, I think
is a bargain. I have bought a few concert/music DVDs
and this far outshines the others (in my opinion). Though I
do really enjoy my "Depeche Mode - One Night in Paris".
