Default changing recording speeds

with a vcr, you can be recording at the sp speed, hit a button to change
speeds to slp, and continue recording. you get a brief glitch at the point
where the recording speeds changed, but otherwise the speed change works.

can you do the same thing recording dvd's? or does changing speeds in
mid-recording session ruin the recording?

thx in advance

I think I tried that with my Panny E50 when I
got it and it doesn't let yuo do it. You have
to press Stop which makes a program entry, select
a new speed and start recording again.

Other Panny models or other brands may allow you
to do what you're asking about.

Well, you can do that with most VCRs, but not all. One of mine will not permit
change once you hit record. With my DVD recorder you can not change the
recording compression, but it seems like they could make ones that permit this.

I wonder why people call it changing speeds, when what you are changing is the
compression ratio. Probably for the same reason that peple "dial" their
push-button phone or "film" things with their video cameras.

Hitting Pause, changing speeds, then Pause again (to re-start) also
works. The second part will still get recorded as a new title, but I
believe it takes less time.
