Default DVD Verdict reviews: LAW AND ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT: THE FIFTH YEAR and more!

Today, DVD Verdict posted reviews of GRANDPA'S PLACE: VOLUME 2,
HOMICIDE: LIFE ON THE STREET: THE COMPLETE FIFTH SEASON, KING SOLOMON'S
MINES (2004), LAW AND ORDER: THE FOURTEENTH YEAR, LAW AND ORDER:
CRIMINAL INTENT: THE THIRD YEAR, LAW AND ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT:
THE FIFTH YEAR, and WHAT'S HAPPENING!! THE COMPLETE SECOND SEASON:

GRANDPA'S PLACE: VOLUME 2 (reviewed by Diane Wild, overall score
35/100):
"Grandpa's Place is an obscure children's series that, as far as I can
tell, lasted four episodes which may or may not have ever been
broadcast. This DVD consists of the latter two of those episodes and
answers the question: 'why did it only last four episodes?' but not:
'why bother putting out a DVD?'"

HOMICIDE: LIFE ON THE STREET: THE COMPLETE FIFTH SEASON (reviewed by
David Gutierrez, overall score 97/100):
"Homicide: Life on the Street exemplifies the best television has to
offer. Steeped in characterization and blessed with incredible writing,
acting and production values, Homicide sets new expectations for the
cop genre."

KING SOLOMON'S MINES (2004) (reviewed by Maurice Cobbs, overall
score 75/100):
"Whether or not it was intentional (and I sort of suspect that it was
not), the people behind this retelling of King Solomon's Mines have
created an almost perfect throwback to the classic adventure serials of
the '30s and '40s."

LAW AND ORDER: THE FOURTEENTH YEAR (reviewed by Adam Arseneau, overall
score 95/100):
"It always turns out to be the mother. Trust me."

LAW AND ORDER: CRIMINAL INTENT: THE THIRD YEAR (reviewed by David
Gutierrez, overall score 92/100):
"Little by little, Goren has tidbits of his life uncovered for the
audience. Due to the flickering nature of these revelations, it can
appear that Goren has knowledge that creeps up when it is convenient to
solving crimes, very much in a deux ex machina fashion. To like Goren is
to have patience."

LAW AND ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT: THE FIFTH YEAR (reviewed by Patrick
Bromley, overall score 87/100):
"More often than not, Law & Order: SVU functions more as pure police
procedural than as drama, which is both a strength and a weakness."

WHAT'S HAPPENING!! THE COMPLETE SECOND SEASON (reviewed by Lacey
Worrell, overall score 80/100):
"The second season of What's Happening!! is clearly the show's best. The
classic episodes included in this release are some of the most beloved
of the series' run."
