Today, DVD Verdict posted reviews of ANIME ESSENTIALS: SLAYERS THE
MOTION PICTURE, CHRONO CRUSADE: A PLAGUE OF DEMONS (VOLUME 1), COOL IT, BABY / MINI-SKIRT LOVE / VENUS IN FURS, DRAGON HALF, HAPPY LESSON: MAMA MIA, HULLABALOO OVER GEORGIE AND BONNIE'S PICTURES, IKKI TOUSEN: LEGENDARY FIGHTER (VOLUME 1), THE IRON-FISTED MONK, KALEIDO STAR: WELCOME TO THE KALEIDO STAGE!, NEW FIST OF THE NORTH STAR: THE CURSED CITY! (VOLUME 1), PANYO, PANYO DI. GI. CHARAT: NYO! (VOLUME 1), and THEY CAME TO CORDURA: ANIME ESSENTIALS: SLAYERS THE MOTION PICTURE (reviewed by Sandra Dozier, overall score 87/100): "I never miss a chance to see Lina and Naga together. Even when the story isn't so hot, this dynamic duo certainly is. The way they play off each other is priceless, and I love the formula: Start off on opposite sides, end up working together, hilarity ensues." FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/sl...ionpicture.php CHRONO CRUSADE: A PLAGUE OF DEMONS (VOLUME 1) (reviewed by Mitchell Hattaway, overall score 80/100): "Chrono Crusade, both the anime and the original manga, was quite successful in Japan. Fans here in the states who have been awaiting its release should, technical quibbles aside, be quite pleased with this initial offering, as should anyone who just wants to see a cute cartoon chick blow stuff up." FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/chronocrusadevol1.php COOL IT, BABY / MINI-SKIRT LOVE / VENUS IN FURS (reviewed by Bill Gibron, overall score 85/100): "Cool It, Baby / Mini-Skirt Love / Venus in Furs are three of the choicest chunks of exploitation ever to misrepresent their purpose. Whoever named these movies should be shot. The terrible titles barely do justice to the juiciness found inside." FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/coolminivenus.php DRAGON HALF (reviewed by Mitchell Hattaway, overall score 30/100): "Dragon Half is easily the worst anime I've ever seen. Nothing else even comes close. I could hardly believe my eyes. I haven't seen such a series of disasters since Gene Hackman tried to sink California in Superman. It's supposed to be madcap and manic, but it's really just noisy and shrill." FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/dragonhalf.php HAPPY LESSON: MAMA MIA (reviewed by Rob Lineberger, overall score 39/100): "This rampant creativity is just one reason why anime such as Happy Lesson: Mama Mia, an original animation video (OAV), is so disappointing. It is shrill, it is frantic, and dare I say -- it is crap. Anime like this not only supports the argument of anime mockers, it jumps up and urinates a stream of lighter fluid into the fire. Happy Lesson: Mama Mia makes it hard to defend our beloved genre." FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/ha...sonmamamia.php HULLABALOO OVER GEORGIE AND BONNIE'S PICTURES (reviewed by Amanda DeWees, overall score 81/100): "For a comedy, Hullabaloo is not an overtly comic movie; its tone tends toward the gently ironic, taking a stance of slightly wry amusement at the different players in this game that they find so important." FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/hullabaloo.php IKKI TOUSEN: LEGENDARY FIGHTER (VOLUME 1) (reviewed by Mitchell Hattaway, overall score 85/100): "Remember the Uma Thurman/Daryl Hannah fight in Kill Bill: Volume 2? Imagine Quentin put them in schoolgirl uniforms and shot the scene from a low angle. Now imagine they both start losing their clothes halfway through the fight (and don't seem to notice). See the appeal of this series? Achieve the right tone and it's possible to make almost anything palatable." FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/ikkitousenvol1.php THE IRON-FISTED MONK (reviewed by David Johnson, overall score 82/100): "Hey man, the audience wins, because death or graphic eye-ripping-out awaits these suckers!" FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/ironfistedmonk.php KALEIDO STAR: WELCOME TO THE KALEIDO STAGE! (reviewed by Sandra Dozier, overall score 90/100): "Through challenge comes character. This is an excellent message that anyone can benefit from -- recognize your success, make it the core of your strength, and use it to help you overcome your failures. It's simple and elegant, and I can't think of a more entertaining way to hear it than through the gorgeous scenery and compelling stories of Kaleido Star." FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/kaleidostar.php NEW FIST OF THE NORTH STAR: THE CURSED CITY! (VOLUME 1) (reviewed by Mitchell Hattaway, overall score 50/100): "I'm not really interested in watching guys with necks the size of Christmas hams beat the crap out of each other, but if you are, this series should be right up your alley." FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/newfistvol1.php PANYO, PANYO DI. GI. CHARAT: NYO! (VOLUME 1) (reviewed by Bill Gibron, overall score 89/100): "Like a foppish fever dream one might have after consuming too many Pixie Sticks, or a simple Saturday morning cartoon gone psycho, Panyo. Panyo Di. Gi. Charat is a wild, wonderful animated bonbon. Featuring characters so sweet they will close down your pancreas, and pen and ink factors so fresh it's like looking at actual fantasy come to life, this is a quirky, whimsical wonder." FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/panyopanyovol1.php THEY CAME TO CORDURA (reviewed by Bill Treadway, overall score 85/100): "They Came to Cordura is a rare type of Western, one that isn't made any more: the thinking man's Western.
