Default Multiple DiVX/VCDs on a DVD

Hi
Do modern set-top DVD players out there play DVDs that have multiple files
on them in different formats? Ex. a DIVX movie, a VCD movie etc. I dont know
if these units now have menus to navigate files etc.

If so, what software would you use to burn a standard DVD+R (4.7 gig) so it
contains multiple movie files? Would Nero Ultra work? Would you burn it in
"data" mode?
Ideally, with each Divx or VCD about 700MB, I could see putting about 6
movies on a disc.

thanx

it will play dvd iso/image files.
the remote is a little shitty.

I am fairly happy with mine. There have been some that have not played, but
for the most part, they do. You are right about the remote. Also, the
customer support is very terrible. I stay on the phone holding for an hour,
give up, go online and they tell me to call again.

Does the red light stay on when your unit is turned off? I didn't know if
that was right or not. Normally the light should be off when the dvd player
is off, right?

I also have the DVP-642 model & it's great but I have found that there are
a few xvids it won't play. I found out that it also plays Windows Media
files such as wmv & asf. However, when playing "raw" movie files I cannot
rewind - only fast forward. If I attempt to rewind these it jumps to the
very end. This is not a problem with DVDs, SVCDs, etc.

On my 642, the red Standby light comes on when the unit is in Standby,
and turns off when the unit is turned On. Of course, when the unit is
turned On the entire display then lights up.

I too have the DVP 642 and while it plays a lot of different formats
it has a
problem that I cannot get rid of..I have made DVD's encoded with
Plextors convert x 402U and for the most part all will play but in the
Philips (and a JVC) player the movie freezes at descrete spots..Yet I
play the same DVD in a Sylvania TV with internal DVD player and it
plays fine without a single freeze..I have flashed the Philips with
the latest updates and it still does it..It and the JVC seem to be
prone to freezing for a few seconds(both audio and video)...I surmise
that they are using the same chipsets but that is just a guess..Has
anyone else had freezing with the DVP 642?
Yes the standby lite(red) does indeed stay on when the unit is off..My
wife put
a silver piece of tape over the lite..She hated that feature and I
also thought it was stupid..I have not tried playing either *.wmv or
*.asf files..I will try that...

Follow up to my previous post..How did you get the 642 to play raw WMF
and asf files? I tried it and it refused it because it did not have
the proper codec..
Thank You,
jolphil
