Default Philips DVDR-70 vs DVD+R discs

DVD+R (write once) seem to corrupt if record to the end (dont stop it before
it reaches the end)

2 questions

1/ Is this normal behavior?

2/ just recorded a great film and it got corrupted (because i didn't stop
the recording) - is there any method of recovery? - or is it another coaster
(before i try finalise it)
