I have had my first DVD player for one week.
If I use the Fast Forward function to resume watching at the the place on the disc where I previously stopped watching the Movie , will I damage the player? Previously the disc was removed and the player turned off before the movie was finished. Is there a better alterntive way to resume playback at a specific place on the disc other than Fast Forward? The manual doesn't cover this resume function. Thanks for your help. Fred Tompkins |

Fred What brand and model is your DVD player? Players handle the resume feature differently. The new Sonys automatically record the resume information and resume automatically, either from a stop or when the disk is re-inserted. The new Panasonics require you to press the "position memory" button before stopping the disk -- not nearly as convenient. In any event, you can use the DVD chapter menu, advance by chapters or use the fast forward scan. I'm sure that continually using the fast-forward scan creates small amount of wear and tear on the machine, but it's probably not enough to worry about. One-Shot Scot |

Scot,
My new player is a Toshiba SD-V392. It's a DVD/VCR "Combo". Thanks. Fred Tompkins |

However, after posting my first reply, I remembered the My Sony DVPNS725P has a setup menu option which allows the "Multi -disk resume" feature to be turned on and off. I think that it comes from the factory in the On position. Check your Toshiba setup menu and look for a similar feature. Also, look on the remote control for a "position memory" (or something similar) button. One-Shot Scot |

Chapter skip is faster, although less precise. At the least it should get you fairly close to where you were, and you can FF a much smaller section of the film. Use the >>| button instead of the >> one. Also, DVD menus typically have chapter select menu, where you can pick which chapter you want to resume watching from. Alternatively, some DVD players have a "goto" button on the remote, which lets you jump to a specific chapter, or even a specific time. Finally, as has been mentioned, some DVD players have a specific resume function, although since it's not mentioned in yours manual, I doubt yours has it. -Jay Jay G. |

Yes -- hit the chapter skip repeatedly (or use scene selection) to get to the approximate spot, then fast forward to the exact spot. Check your player's instruction manual: some will let you select a specific time point within the movie and will jump directly there. -- Stan Brown, Oak Road Systems, Tompkins County, New York, USA http://OakRoadSystems.com "You want an intelligent conversation?
