I don't have the "V" set, but I did pick up the WITHOUT A
TRACE set, and they are definitely DVD-18s (dual-sided,
dual-layered).

Probably. Or so the shops can put stickers on them.

Could be. NE is from Universal, and someone else mentioned
renting dual-sided discs of GREEN ACRES, which is MGM.
