Hi all,
When playing a DVD with my pioneer dvd player i can hear the disc spinning from a 9 ft. distance. It's not really loud, but loud enough to hear when the movie contains almost no sound. For some strange reason it seems to be worse in the +/- first 15 minutes of the movie. So it might have something to do with reading certain parts of the disc which have to be accessed with a higher (or lower) spin speed ?!? My questions are: 1) Is this normal, or is my player broken. 2) Is there any way to remove the noise. 3) If i decide to buy a new one: Which one should i pick to get a decent player with almost no internal sound? Thanks for any information! John |

Reading starts on the inside of the disc which has to of course spin faster to maintain the same information density as at the outer part of the disc where it can spin more slowly. What you're hearing is a bad hub motor bearing. ... Steve . Steve(JazzHunter) |

I just checked my Pioneer 360 player, and with the TV muted and a DVD playing normally I can just hear a barely audible whirring noise from 6 inches away. By two feet away I have to be dead in line in front of it to hear it (moving my head up just a few inches is enough to cut the noise). By four feet away I can hear nothing. I suspect your particular player is at fault. John Howells John Howells |

But i wonder if i can use this one (and just accept the extra noise) until i have a new one without damaging my discs. Or can a bad motor and irregular/wrong spin speeds, damage the disc itself? Most DVD players make some noise, in most cases it's the stepping motor you can hear when the laser moves to a track on the DVD. To remove the noise buy a cabinet with a front glass door and put your DVD player inside the cabinet. It's best to take a DVD movie with you when you go shopping and try it on different brands of DVD players. Regards Brian Brian |

What you are hearing is Satan calling you. He is screaming into the silence of your mind, and cursing you to join him. You see, Satan wants you to watch those DVDs and sell your soul to him for an eternity in hell. Destroy those DVDs and the DVD machine too. Then go outside and listen to the birds chirping and instead of that Satanic noise that is driving your mind toward insanity. Outside you will hear God's choir of birds singing in the trees. If you listen real carefully, you may even hear the angels singing in heaven. I am sure there is also a church near you that could use another voice in the choir, and you could be that voice.
