Today, DVD Verdict posted reviews of AIR AMERICA: SPECIAL EDITION,
ANGEL: THE COMPLETE SECOND SEASON, THE BEST OF TRIUMPH THE INSULT COMIC
DOG, THE BLACK SOCIETY TRILOGY: SHINJUKU TRIAD SOCIETY, THE BLACK
SOCIETY TRILOGY: RAINY DOG, THE BLACK SOCIETY TRILOGY: LEY LINES, BLACK
SOCIETY TRILOGY: SPECIAL LIMITED EDITION, JUMPIN' JACK FLASH, LATE NIGHT
WITH CONAN O'BRIEN 10TH ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL, THE PRINCE AND ME, and THE
WOODEN MAN'S BRIDE:

AIR AMERICA: SPECIAL EDITION (reviewed by David Ryan, overall
score 75/100):
"If it's a non-Mad Max action-adventure film, and it has Mel Gibson in
it, you pretty much know what you're getting. Quality, but decidedly
unchallenging, entertainment. Air America is no different."

ANGEL: THE COMPLETE SECOND SEASON (reviewed by Brett Cullum, overall
score 90/100):
"Angel is great science fiction because it addresses humanity as much as
Star Trek or...um...Buffy The Vampire Slayer. It has teeth and wings."

THE BEST OF TRIUMPH THE INSULT COMIC DOG (reviewed by Mitchell Hattaway,
overall score 95/100):
"The film unfolds, not surprisingly, in a novelistic manner, relying
more on character and incident than the machinations of plot. It
wouldn't work half as well with a cast half as strong, but that's not a
problem here. Morton and McDermott are both nothing short of astonishing
in this film."

THE BLACK SOCIETY TRILOGY: SHINJUKU TRIAD SOCIETY (reviewed by Adam
Arseneau, overall score 86/100):
"Shinjuku Triad Society is the archetypal Miike yakuza film, full of
bodily fluids, violent sexuality, isolation, and loneliness. Miike knows
exactly how far to take things, and then takes them farther. Then, he
takes them another step beyond intolerable. This is exactly what makes
him a fantastic director, and makes his movies the things of notoriety."

THE BLACK SOCIETY TRILOGY: RAINY DOG (reviewed by Adam Arseneau, overall
score 88/100):
"Anyone who comes on board Rainy Dog expecting to see an orgy of blood,
gang rapes, mutilations, or lactating women (don't even ask about that
last one) will be sorely disappointed, since Rainy Dog steers clear of
all such things. This is a character-driven film, a slow and brooding
development into inner demons and personal isolation, and while the
occasional bullet flies about, this can hardly be called an action
flick, or even a typical Yakuza flick."

THE BLACK SOCIETY TRILOGY: LEY LINES (reviewed by Adam Arseneau, overall
score 94/100):
"If I had to show someone a Takashi Miike movie, I would choose this
film...it is one of his most mature pictures in terms of character
development, cinematic direction, and thematic expression. All the
elements of his work, from the shocking violence and sexuality to the
complex and diverse character developments, the cultural isolation and
loneliness, and the surprises and the unexpected twists...it's all here,
and done expertly well."

BLACK SOCIETY TRILOGY: SPECIAL LIMITED EDITION (reviewed by Adam
Arseneau, overall score 94/100):
"Oh yeah...and also, these are Takashi Miike films, so each film has
lots of bizarre sex, incredibly violent confrontations, and cinematic
sequences so odd, they actually make your brain cells leap out of your
ears out of sheer panic."

FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/bl...etytrilogy.php

JUMPIN' JACK FLASH (reviewed by Dennis Prince, overall score 81/100):
"Although it's not necessarily a 'gas, gas, gas,' Jumpin' Jack Flash is
a pleasantly distracting relic of '80s cinema."

LATE NIGHT WITH CONAN O'BRIEN 10TH ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL (reviewed by
David Ryan, overall score 97/100):
"Like all anniversary shows, it's mainly a collection of 'best of'
clips, with occasional guests interspersed. It's also absolutely
hysterical. I haven't laughed this hard or this long at a disc since
Spinal Tap -- and I'd already seen this show when it originally
aired. There is absolutely nothing unfunny in this show, except for
the credits."

FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/conan10th.php

THE PRINCE AND ME (reviewed by Amanda DeWees, overall score 90/100):
"The term 'chick flick' has become so derogatory that it's encouraging
to find a film that fits into that category without insulting its
target audience -- and that offers as much development for its hero as
for its heroine."

FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/princeandme.php

THE WOODEN MAN'S BRIDE (reviewed by Erick Harper, overall score 86/100):
"The greatest strength of The Wooden Man's Bride is in its subtlety.
Dialogue is used sparingly, and the filmmakers do not feel the need to
have the characters explain every last detail of every last action in
the film."
