Default Photo DVD

I am about to scan some 35mm transparencies and then burn them to a dvd for
viewing on an HDTV through a progressive scan DVD player. Any suggestions on
the optimal scan settings and formats.

I scanned mine at 2400 dpi. Worked like a champ!

480p is still only 704x480. Just about any scanning rate is well above
the needs, but may give you flexibilty to crop inward on some.

Ulead's support for DVD Picture show can list the exact figures.
I once used a product called XATshow that was 16:9 capable. That would be
better for landscape 3:2 shots.

Last, I have a toy called Roku that actually outputs in HD resolution. Sells
for a tad under $300 now, can be networked to your computer.

Thanks for the answers, but please pardon an amateurs question. 1200 DPI
will result in too large a file (and way too long to scan). I am thinking in
terms of 300-600 dpi. Assuming no editing, is there any significant visual
quality advantage of 600 over 300 when viewing on a 420p hdtv.

Make a few test scans at different resolutions and burn them to an RW type
media. Decide which looks best to you and use that method in the future.

Results-300, 600 1200 dpi no visible difference. 300 marginally better then
150. 150 slightly better then 72.
except when I plan to edit (crop), I will generally use 300.
I am viewing on a 32" SONY CRT HDTV via a Sony Progressive scan DVD and an
Epson 1200u photo scanner.
