This is an alt. group, you twit, not a moderated forum. Citing the
charter? What are you, brand new to USENET this week?

You are a much bigger pest than any of the people you complain about.
Who can I report you to?

Wrong objection. Many alt groups have charters; all have topics.

>You are a much bigger pest than any of the people you complain about.

There I think you have a point. For a newbie to post a so-called
"FAQ" that actually just pushes his own agenda is wrong, regardless
of what may be in that agenda itself.

I know that alt. groups have charters and topics, but they also have
flexibility in discussion that a moderated group would not.

Yeah, but I think he was saying this is an alt. group, which means you can
expect a large variety of topics in an unmoderated forum, whether it's in
the charter or not.

moderation has nothing to do with it.

Most non alt groups also have a variety of topics, and most are
unmoderated.

You seem to be under the impression that "alt group" and "moderated
group" are opposites. You are mistaken.

Many, many groups in the Big 8 are unmoderated. Some alt groups are
moderated.

Either way, off-topic articles are a problem. They are not somehow
more acceptable in alt groups. To argue otherwise is to say that
because burglaries are more common in big cities therefore burglary
isn't a crime in big cities.

Nobody is arguing they're "more acceptable". We're saying you should expect
it more often. That's not an opinion on anything; it's just a simple
pragmatic fact.

That's been my argument the whole time - accept the reality. These postings
are made, they're not going to stop, and nothing you can do will stop them.
FACT. So just killfile them - easily done in seconds - and wash your hands
of it. These threads arguing such a trivial topic are easily as annoying as
the posts in question, and take up far more bandwidth.

Sheesh, whatever happened to basic pragmatism and common sense? Put it
this way: is it better to be right, or is it better to be effective? It's
an important question, because often you can't be both. This is one of
those times.

Mike

Sorry, but the PP's argument seems to me to be saying that anything
goes on an alt group. I disagree.

Which is _exactly_ what I suggested when FAQmeister started his
campaign. I agree with his goals but disagree vehemently with his
methods. And to avoid adding to the total of off-topic articles,
this will be the last one I post in the current set of threads.

dvdguy2 was posting not that long ago round here as waterbrain.
Same stupidity as before.

Max Christofferson appears out of the shadows every so often
to say his usual crap then disappears when he see's that he is
outnumber.
