philips dvp menu gery out?

hello,I want to go back to the default setting on my philips dvp 642 but the
preference setting menu seems greyed out on my menu on screen and I cannot
go to the manufacturers default for my player ?I messed up my audio etc
settings and would like to return to default,any ideas how to make defualt
available? thanks for reading this.
