Hi
I need some recommendations for a good quality, durable, portable DVD player. I've scouted around but all I see are Musteks and Panasonics plus the occasional Toshiba. There seems to be a whole gaggle of machines with brand names I've never heard of. Shinco(Chinese?), Joytech etc.. I thought Samsung did some quality gear, but they are hard to find here in the U.K. Thanks. redTed |

I have found you might as well go with the cheap Initial. It has worked for a year without fail. I had Toshiba, Panasonic, RCA etc. fail just outside of the warranty. I strongly suggest investing in a service contract if you have them in the UK. These portable DVD players are pretty notorious for a short life. luminos |

Depending on the size of the screen you're looking for... I have the Initial
5.8" under the brand name "Go Video". I got it at Sears over a year ago, and have used it at least once a week. The Battery only lasts 2 hours, but it comes with an outlet adapter, and an adapter for your car. It's been through just about everything, and i have not had a single problem with it. I've given the same model to friends, and none have had problems so far. You can find this model under 3 or 4 different brand names, and can be found as low as $129.99 if you watch your sunday ads. Has nobody tried the Mustek ? As for Polaroid, they look great but don't think they are available in the U.K. redTed |
