Didn't they just do that on Kill Bill?

Really? You didn't expect an SE or a box set?
Personally I still haven't bought it. Why not? Well, because I - like any
experienced DVD buyer - *knows* that this happens. And I don't mind being
patient. I guess that's the difference.

Not as far as I know. From what I understand they didn't really
publicise it much so very few people knew about the differen't Kill
Bill versions. Unlike Lord of the Rings versions which were heavily
publicised before release.

No, why would I? A box set maybe, but I don't care about that. An SE -
they should have done that to begin with, or at least announced a future
version.

I don't mind being patient either, as long as their plans are announced
ahead of time. I know it can happen, but it really doesn't very often,
which is why it irks me when it does. What ****es me off about *this*
particular situation is the callousness with which Miramax's rep describes
the situation, as if he's gleeful that they left consumers in the dark so
successfully (multiple bites at the apple, I think is how he put it). ****
him - I'll just stick with the version I bought in that case.

By it used. Usually within a couple weeks, many video stores unload a
lot of rental stock for 10 - 14 bucks as rental demand decreases on a
high profile title like Kill Bill 1. That way, Miramax doesn't get any
further money from the sale, you get the movie for a reduced price and
once the "special edition" or whatever the next so-called upgrade is
comes out, you can sell your used copy for a few bucks further reducing
what you paid for the first version and again, preventing Miramax from
profiting from yet another sale when the next person buys your used dvd.

T.B.

For there to be a "special" edition, don't there have to be a "regular"
edition?

Ok, so now you know what their strategy is. Act accordingly.
