Default Netflix Customer Profile Policy

Is there anyone else out there who has a problem with Netflix's policy
requiring their customers to write reviews before allowing them to set up a
customer profile? I want a profile so that I can use customer lists to help
keep my queue manageable. I write for a living. The idea that I should have
to supply them with free labor (the fruits of which become Netflix
property), however minimal, in order to take full advantage of a service
that I'm already paying 20 bucks a month for, is annoying in the extreme.

Three calls to customer service have resulted in responses ranging from
(I'm paraphrasing)"There's nothing I can do. It's all automated." to "Tough
noogies. We can do what we want." Don't get me wrong, I don't doubt the
factual nature of either of those two statements. But the "tough noogies"
gal told me that (again paraphrasing) "Wal-Mart DVD rental requires the
same thing and Amazon and Imdb and lots of other sites have similar
policies." I haven't looked at Wal-Mart (yet) but that certainly isn't my
experience of Amazon or Imdb.or any other site I've used. Anyone able to
tell me what she's talking about?

Venting to the Customer Suggestion repository will no doubt prove useless.
(Besides, useless venting is what Usenet is for.) Maybe I'll get lucky and
some Netflix bigwig will read this and sympathize. (and then I'll win the
Lotto and then Monica Bellucci will call me for a date and then...)

E.

Just got this from Netflix:

Hello Eric,

Thanks for your inquiry. At this time we are no longer adding profiles.
I have not been given a date on when we will start adding profiles
again. Once we do start adding profiles. You will automatically be
added. I do apologize if you were told to write 2 reviews to get a
profile. This is how it was done in the past. I am very sorry for any
trouble that this may have caused you.

As a courtesy I have issued a bonus disc outside of your plan allotment,
in the hope of accommodating you for the trouble you have experienced.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any further questions
or concerns.

Thanks,
Steven

They're wrong. Wal-Mart does not "require" that you write reviews.

That said... I previously subscribed to Wal-Mart's service and it
wasn't nearly as good as Netflix. It took longer for selected movies to
arrive and the number of choices was considerably less.

In article <lsKDb.2336$>,

What good is a profile on Netflix unless you review films?

I don't quite understand your question.
