Surely cinema audiences are going to be puzzled by the total absence of
Saruman from ROTK? Even someone who never read the books is going to ask, 'What about that other wizard, the evil one'. ROTK looks like being another big battle scene and nothing much else, just like TTT. Apart from something happening to the Ring at the end. Duh. Mark W |

I think the movie opens w/ a 7 min "storyline" involving saruman...
As far as the movie being 1 big battle scene and nothing else just like TT's....I dont seem to remember TT's being 1 big battle scene and though I have not seen the third flick..I have read the books and I dont remember Return being one big battle scene... I have not been this excited in recent yrs over a movie...and I cant wait to be there at midnight Wed morn to see it... ....and my suggestion to u.....dont go see it if u think "nothing happens apart something happening to the Ring at the end"....simple as that "Mark W" <s@o> wrote in message news:... > Surely cinema audiences are going to be puzzled by the total absence of > Saruman from ROTK? Personally, I don't care much for the theaterical versions. It's the extended DVD version that represent the REAL movie for me. The theaterical versions are made for mainstream audiences. There is STILL a TON of whining on Usenet from non-fans who say "Why does it take 9 hours to tell this story? Just get rid of the ring and be done with it!" As hacked and cut as they are, they are not generalized enough for the masses. I'll probably see ROTK in the theater just to be social, but the real experience for me will be the extended DVD. The theaterical experience is simply not satisfying. Cernovog |

I love the extended versions....rounds out the story hugely...
.....but I think both versions of each movie "work" well... > I think the movie opens w/ a 7 min "storyline" involving saruman... Nope. It was supposed to be at the end of TTT, and then when Jackson couldn't fit it in there or at the start of ROTK, they dumped it. This is the reason why Christopher Lee isn't attending any of the premieres. He has announced it will be inserted back into the EE though (phew!). http://www.aintitcool.com/display.cgi?id=16462 (the red text is Jackson's) > I have read the books and I dont remember Return being one big battle > scene... No, the other poster is over-exaggerating, though ROTK will have much larger-scale battles than the other two combined. -- - Cods (un ROT-13 to email) Codswallop |

Why *does* it take 9 hours to tell this story? Nothing much happens for long stretches of it and most of the rest is the same looping monotonous poorly conceived battle over and over. Plus some mewling adolescent characters about whom I couldn't give a **** if I had a permanent hardon. >As hacked and cut as they are, they are not generalized enough for the >masses. You mean not enough windy dialogue and repetitive story elements? Is that what you geeks get off on? Less is more. >I'll probably see ROTK in the theater just to be social, but the real >experience for me will be the extended DVD. The theaterical experience is >simply not satisfying. That's for sure. Steve Hanson |

I'm going to the premiere tonight, but for me the high point of every
film has been Saruman's scenes... because of the presence (and I mean PRESENCE) of Chris Lee. I've been a fan of his since childhood and I think it's a damn shame he was cut out of this one. dam DAM |

Well I don't think it's very realistic to insert him into more of the movie
(that's not in the book) just because he is an awesome actor. His part of the story is over after the ents attack Isengard and he is imprisioned in the tower.
