If your TV can cope with NTSC, then yes.

If not, you might be able to set the DVD player output to PAL and it will be
a bit jerky but will play.

UK is region 2 though!

How can I tell? Is it just modern high-end TV's that can do this? Or can
most TV's do this?

What model TV is it then?

A lot of Bollywood films are region 0, NTSC so if your local lending library
has some of these, you could rent one and see what happens.

Most TV's in Europe are compatible with both formats, even the very cheap ones.
Older models might only be able to show PAL though.
