tv station and widescreen

Last year, the Scripps-Howard tv station here broadcast both local 4:3 and ABC
16:9 widescreen content in their proper aspect ratios.

Someone said to write them to compliment them for doing it the correct way,
instead of the wrong way that many stations do.

So I did.

Well, that was a BIG mistake.

It must have brought the black bars to their attention.

Because as of this fall, they are now broadcasting 4:3 stuff so that it fills
widescreen tv sets, but only looks in-proper-proportion on a 4:3 tv set, when
your HDTV decoder box is set to anamorphic widescreen mode.

And I don't know what they're doing with the ABC widescreen stuff this year,
because those shows looked proper in widescreen except the ABC logo was out of
proportion.

And when viewed on a 4:3 set, the abc logo was proper proportion, but the
program seemed too tall and thin.

everything was with my decoder set to recieve anamorphic widescreen.

Although I'll have to take a look at those widescreen tv shows again. They
might be broadcasting everything (including widescreen) so that it looks proper
only on a 4:3 set when you're HDTV decoder box is set to recieve the HDTV
station in anamorphic widescreen.

They're definitely doing it with 4:3 material though.

So if you have a widescreen tv set, and you're tv set is properly set to
"full"(stretch" mode), which most HDTV sets automatically default to when
viewing a HDTV station broadcasting anything over 480p, you get a 4:3 picture
stretched out of proper proportion.
