Default TT EE R1: Discs 3 & 4 defective

TT EE R1:

Like many others I have a problem with discs 3 & 4 not playing. The discs
go to the 1st index, then to the 2nd, and loop back. It never plays. Tried
3 copies so far from different outlets, so it's not a batch issue.

Checking "review" posts on Amazon.com shows that lots of people are having
this problem with Zenith (like mine), Sony, and Sanyo players.

Anyone here experience this compatibility issue? If so - what players are
you using?

I've emailed lotr.net and newline product support to no avail, as yet.
Hopefully if enough folks compalin they will print some discs that (like the
FOtR EE set) work on all players. And (like they did for TT theatrical DVD)
set up an exchange.

Matt

I've played discs 3 & 4 (region 1) on several PC-DVD drives by Samsung and
Sony as well as set-top DVD players by Magnavox and Sony and haven't
experienced any problems whatsoever. I guess I've been one of the few lucky
ones for I've also seen quite a number of complaints. Hopefully they'll
recognize this issue and offer folks replacement discs that address the
problems.

Well, I recieved my copy last week from www.DVD.CO.UK, the first 2 discs
where fine. I played the third disc ( play all ), and the disc froze in the
third documentary of the 3rd disc. It did more than freeze, the DVD player
would not work at all anymore! My DVD player was a Panasonic RV-31, it got
the infamous H02 error, and stopped playing all my DVD's ( I only had it
for 12 months, but reading on the internet, it's a common problem with this
brand of player ).

Thinking that it was just a defective player, and it's had it's short
lifespan, I ordered a Medeon player from amazon.co.uk ( £40.00 ). Low and
behold, I can't access the 3rd menu item on the 3rd disc. Most of the time
it resets the player, some of the time it'll take me to some random
sub-menu. What a load of garbage ! I'm not exactly sure on how these menu
systems work, but having a programming background, I reckon it's the
software on the DVD, but I can't see why any DVD should break a player ( but
it's too ironic to pass over ).

I've just sent the retailers an email outlining the problem, and taken
issue with the credit card company over the deffective purchase.

Somebody knows something somewhere, and they're not admitting it.
