I purchased an A05 in March. Burned a few test DVDs successfully, but could
not read them on the drive. I was able to read them on other drives.
Replaced the drive with the dealer, but the new drive had the same problem.
Called Pioneer TS, but they told me it was a software issue and could not
help and did not track these issues. Not wishing to waste a week
reinstalling from scratch I let the drive sit.

Fortunately the power blackout fried the drive and I sent it back for
repair. Two months and several calls/emails later I had the a replacement
drive from Pioneer. Noticed that the SN on the frame does not match the SN
in the BIOS (FrankenDrive). So I guess they were waiting for enough
salvageable parts to send me a replacement. Anyway, the drive can now read
the disks that I wrote several months ago on the other drive? I found this
most weird. I suppose a Windows patch might have solved this problem, but I
doubt it. I was using the same firmware version in both drives.

But now, I can't seem to write a CD Image out to the drive. It complains
about an invalid field in the parameter list. (See NERO log below). I swear
this worked a few weeks ago! I've seen references to this elsewhere, but
never a solution. Any ideas?

BTW. I will never buy another PIONEER product. I don't care how good the
geek rating is.

Install Adaptec aspi or use W2K or XP SPTI. The Nero ASPI is causing
all your problems. Look for ForceAspi, such as at
http://www.afterdawn.com/software/cd...ls/frcaspi.cfm
and unistall Nero aspi.

From the experience I've had with Pioneer products I guess you just
had a bit of unfortunate bad luck.

I swear by Pioneer DVD products. I own the following Pioneer products
and never had a problem with them at all.

* Two Pioneer DVD players connected to two TV sets.

* A Pionner A06 DVD Writer

* A Pioneer DVD Rom

On the other hand I've had problems with a Sony DVD player that I also
own.

My first CD writer was a SONY. Need less to say the last SONY product I
bought. Made a nice coffee warmer.

I've had good luck with Yamaha (2) and TDK.

Yamaha make good products. Pity they stopped making CD-RW drives.
Thankfully, I have a spare

As for Pioneer, I still think you can't go wrong with them. I've got
my eye on their new DVD Recorders to buy sometime next year.

There are also a couple of buggy builds of Nero, with users having
exactly the problerms you describe. Have you also used Alcohol etc.
to burn discs? Or anything other than Nero? I have the Pioneer A04
and A06 burners, and a Pioneer SCSI DVDrom and CD-burner. I've had
two Pioneer CDroms, never a problem on any of these. My Plextor
CDburner and Matsushita DVDrom also presented no problems. One thing
for sure, Pioneer's are among the most dependable PC media devices you
can own.

Might try taking the Alcohol internally to see if that helps.

I have CDRWin installed, but it gives the same error. Pretty sure this was
working at one point. I'll have to burn a DVD again to see if that's still
OK.

Been burning the CDs on the laptop in the meantime.

CDRwin us great, but the good late version 3 builds don't support DVD,
Alcohol 120% is THE best burnng program for images such as bin/cue,
ISO NRG, even CloneCD It just concistently WORKS, that's all. Also the
DVD burning module with Tmpenc-DVDauthor has always worked for me..

I'm sure you tried yourself to upgrade the AO5 firmware of course. For
My AO6 I installed a hacked version which removed region coding and
allowed burning overspeed and burn and read silent mode. Vey useful.
