Sadly, this is precisely why the studios have decided not to send
screeners any more.

Actually, its because of copies showing up on DIVX in newsgroups, screeners
have been sold for years and never was a problem. Ultimately all it will
hurt is the lesser named movies who will not get a fair shot because of low
exposure.

Actually only the big studios have subscribed to the no screeners
policy, so the smaller movies may actually be helped.

It's not a studio policy, it's an MPAA one. And anyone who is a member
is obliged to obey to order. No MPAA membership means no ratings on
your movies--which means most theaters won't show them, Blockbuster
won't carry them, etc. And, of course, it means that you'll have one
helluva time getting any kind of serious investment $$ or any serious
actors/directors/producers to be involved with your company.

Bitch and moan all you guys want about it, but the reason it is happening
now, is because of all the screeners that were being sold illegally in the
past. Everyone that legitimately gets a screener(or used to) knew damn well
that those were never to be resold or copied etc....Those are the people who
are responsible for the demise of the screener.

That's b.s.
How many screeners have you seen for sale before a street date outside of
Asia?
It's a power play by the big five to keep the Indies out of the running for
the Oscars. That's why the ban is only in effect during the Oscar season.
