We rented The Core last night and really enjoyed it. However, I have a
question. We watched the preview trailer before renting it and in the trailer Rat says he needs Star Trek tapes if he's going to do this job for them. However, in the actual movie, he says he needs Xena tapes. I listened to the commentary for this scene and it doesn't say anything about why they changed from Star Trek to Xena. Anyone know why? I noticed that too. Bad change.
I know who/what Xena is but it took me a few seconds to figure out what he was talking about. Not that this movie will be even relevant but in five years people will really be scratching their heads. I guess Zena is cooler "geek" nowadays then Star Trek. "Lord Vader III" <> wrote in message news:... > We rented The Core last night and really enjoyed it. However, I have a > question. Star Trek is owned by Paramount (who released The Core) so they probably gave a
free plug in the trailer, while in the film itself, they used Xena (who I don't think is owned by Paramount). Since more people see the trailer than the film, they didn't want to have a free plug for another franchise. Moviezzz |

Anyone know why? I'd say that since the preview (prerelease) trailer was produced Star Trek has decreased in relevance compared with Xena. The joke plays better in fact suggesting Xena tapes were something that was sought-after. . Steve . >> >> LVIII > Steve(JazzHunter) |

I meant to add that the traditional method of making trailers is to use alternate takes that have not been cut into the Camera Nagative. This has produced some interesting cases of musical numbers, scenes, and even actors appearing in the trailer that don't exist at all in the finished film! "The Wizard of Oz" trailer is an exercise in blatant outtakes, as is the one for "42nd Street" which is entirely of dancing sequences not appearing in the film. In"Abbot and Costello in Hollywood" during one scene a lighting stand falls on Lucille Ball and eveyone looks astonished- very funny and obviously unintended. In the A and C trailer Costello just runs away froom Lucille and the lamp doesn't fall, not nearly as funny. The "Star Trek" joke was probably an ad-lib, they used the better one in "the Core" and possibly an earlier take was left over for the trailer. .Steve . > > . I was thinking that maybe he wanted the Xena tapes so he could do something with them he couldn't quite do with Star Trek tapes. According to him, he hasn't had sex yet. LVIII Lord Vader III |

I remember them saying "star trek tapes" in the theatre
odd that they would change it... "Zimmy" <> wrote in message news:bjq68b$lqio4$... > I noticed that too. Although that's not exactly a recommendation. Still on the "Subterranean Cheeze-O-Rama" list, I'm still fond of "Battle Beneath The Earth", which I haven't seen in probably 25 years. I'd love to have THAT on DVD. And can someone remind me which 1960s American movie it was, in which a bunch of scientists in the Pacific launch a nuke from their underground base into the earth's core, to do something similar to the aforementioned travesty? (I have "The Day The Earth..." something, at the back of my head.) Oh. And if anyone liked "The Core", go away and watch "The Day The Earth Caught Fire", which is about a gah-zillion times more interesting and tense...and which has a script. Peter Briggs |
