<< I mean, are other chains like Hollywood any better? >>
The selection, I have found, is better. As far as their underbelly, I have no idea... but BB has "influenced" distributors to edit the content of copies to be carried in BB stores... I'm not saying BB censors stuff... I'm saying that they let the distributor do it, but do it they must if it is to be carried by BB. Again, I just don't need to see "Men In Black 2" on a rental copy that's just about as expensive as a theater ticket ($6.50 to $7). It makes no sense. Wade365 |

I live ni a small town where a BB just opened its doors and they come out to over 4.00 a rental . I catch the matinee price of 3.75 and would MUCH rather watch it on the big screen. As to the 20.00 I have a rapidly growing collection of DVDs. Now over 300. Check out Ebay, or Half.com and you can get MANY dvds for 6-10.00 . The last time I paid over 20.00 for a DVD was for a criterion Walkabout which went for 22.00. Sometimes it means you cant get a movie right this second but I typically find great deals (although not alwayd great movies) A couple of examples...Unbreakable 3.99 still wrapped 2 disk version, Fraility 4.50 , Simone 4.00 etc. I will probably never go into BB again the rentals are way overpriced and the new purchaes are even worse. Find a local independent rental place if there is any left and support them instead! Steve The Bradleys |

Remember, there's also tax. Naturally... > I catch the matinee price of 3.75 and would MUCH > rather watch it on the big screen. While I prefer to watch movies on the big screen as well I still enjoy the benefits of watching it on DVD. Privacy, cheap food, being able to pause, etc. > As to the 20.00 I have a rapidly growing collection of DVDs. Now over 300. > Check out Ebay, or Half.com and you can get MANY dvds for 6-10.00 . But are these movies that have just been released? What if you want a movie that just came out this week like House of 1000 Corpses? > I will probably never go into BB again the rentals are way overpriced and > the new purchaes are even worse. Oh, their sell-through prices are way too high. But who the hell goes into a BB to buy a DVD? Everyone with half a brain should know you can buy it cheaper at places like Best Buy. > Find a local independent rental place if > there is any left and support them instead! Now these are the places with crappy small selections. Most mom & pop stores are no bigger than a closet. > Steve -- BL Black Locust |

Both they and Hollywood Video have enough sales that you can get most things for $10-12, which is reasonable. -- Chris Mack "Refugee, total ****. That's how I've always seen us. Privacy, cheap food, being able to > pause, etc. you make some good points about addition costs. However sometimes crowds can heighten the viewing of a movie as well. As to food I just bring a bottled soda and a candy bar in my pocket and avoid the prices all together. > But are these movies that have just been released? What if you want a > movie that just came out this week like House of 1000 Corpses? it is true that newer movies are sometimes harder to get a great price , that is why i said if a person is willing to be a little patient and not "have to have it right then" Even so I commonly see new releases on Ebay for 9.99-11.99. Of course your savings is not great unless you buy a few a once to save on shipping costs. As to House of a 1000 Rob Zombie said he was making a sequel currently and then was going to put out a directors cut of the first one on DVD. So when this does happen this original release will be VERY cheap. >Now these are the places with crappy small selections. Most mom & pop >stores are no bigger than a closet. Just because a place does not have 1000 copies of MIB 2 does not mean that the selection is poor. My local store picks up dozens of DVDs a week that are not main stream , has a foreign section that blows away BB , and even has an NC17 , and (adult section if thats your thing). the thing about mom and pop places is that quanitity of the titles is not there but the diversity is actually in my opinion much better. I guess to each his own I was just trying to throw out some suggestions who in the thread seemed to think BB was also a rip off. Steve The Bradleys |
