APOLOGIES for the spam in my earlier post

Someone reported me to my ISP for posting an ad in this group.

I apologise profusely; I used to frequent this newsgroup a little while
ago, and was sure that ads were allowed, as long as they weren't posted
daily.

Most of my clients have come to me because they use digital cameras and
their computers have crashed, with all their baby or family pics, and I
have been able to help.

Again, my apologies.

Unless you are 'in the business of' no one should have reported you, as
our charter only forbids commercial ads, not those of hobbyists. Many rec
groups allow and even cherish the opportunity to be given 'first look' at
a member's item.

Don't worry, the ISP will not act. If you have any further difficulty
with this, please email me at: bowtie at brightdsl (dot) net.

As I said, many groups do, some here seem to think our charter was
hijacked by the creation of the digital marketplace,... it was NOT

He is. The entirety of his post was an ad for his commercial business &
was in complete violation of the charter.

> no one should have reported you, as
>our charter only forbids commercial ads

Which is exactly what it was. Didn't it occur to you to read the guy's
original post before writing a misleading post on the assumption that he
was being bullied by the 'Dog Pack' you keep ranting about?

No, he's not. He made a mistake, he paid the price, & now he's doing the
honourable thing by apologising to the group. His apology earns him many
points in my eyes, & I imagine that many others here feel the same way.

Yeah, right. You apologize. How about apologizing for back-door commercial
spamming committed under the guise of contrition, you sleazebag? Isn't it
odd how your _mea culpa_ is framed with your company's name, its function,
and its web address? I'm surprised you didn't mention puppy dogs in your
hat-in-hand confession.

Your so-called apology was nothing but a transparent troll for business--as
if anyone REALLY believes your ISP got on your case for a single etiquette
violation in a recreational newsgroup. Gee, I really hope the International
Usenet Patrol doesn't show up on your company's doorstep! You seem like
such a nice person.

People like you, who would use others' goodwill and/or willingness to
forgive as a lever for personal gain, disgust me far more than all the other
trolls and spammers who have plagued this group over the last year. As
your phony email moniker "Odie Ferrous" implies, you really do stink, you
frigging loser.

Now this is crazy and plain rude.

You can put anything you damn well want into a sig. You always could. You
always will. As long as it is not plain illegel.

And for the record, if someone used one of my servers and got some
complains, 1 or more, they would be told about it.

You are gullible beyond belief.

Have you ever heard of an ISP enforcing a single complaint against a usenet
post to a .rec group, even in the over-controlled U.K.? Of course you
haven't. But it did give dear old Odie a second chance at advertising,
didn't it?

It wasn't an auto-post to multiple groups, either, so the sig--if that's
what it is--could have been omitted. Excepting 15 JUL, Odie hasn't posted
to rec.photo.digital since 2002.

In all truth it matters not. When people are getting criticized for their
SIG, it is going beyond acceptable limits. Those have been with us since
the days when most of USENET was little more than a collection of BBSs. It
is untouchable in my belief. Oh, and one complaint would equal a warning
from me. I own a small ISP.

Hi,

We've received a complaint about a posting you made to rec.photo.digital
on usenet. Please be aware that commercial postings are explicitly
prohibited by the charter (which can be found in ftp://ftp.isc.org).

Zen's acceptable use policy prohibits antisocial behaviour and is
located at www.zen.co.uk/policies/aup.asp .

This is an excerpt from the charter:

All postings made to this group should conform to existing Usenet
guidelines (see news.announce.newusers for guideline documents). This
group explicitly prohibits the posting of commercial advertisments or
other promotional material, whether or not it is an any way related to
the photography. Binary postings (i.e. non text postings) are
prohibited.

A single complaint is not a serious matter, however continued complaints
may result in your account being suspended. Please take more care as to
the nature of your posts in future.

Regards,

James Hill
