I have two digital camera. When I got my first I went through the
alkaline AA bateries quite quickly. Ever since I have been using non
rechargeable lithium AA in my Olympus D-360 and in my new C-740 and
been getting very good performance. I do not have the camera on for
hours, but will go out to the park, to the children's, etc. and take 30
to 40 pictures at a time. I am getting 4 to 5 months on one set of
Lithium non- rechargeables in the way I use the cameras.

When people say negative things about AA are they talking about the non
rechargeable lithium or alkaline?

There are a lot of options with a camera that takes AA size batteries.
CRV3, rechargeable RCRV3, NIMH, alkaline, etc. Most of these are
readily available anywhere, and very inexpensive, compared to the
proprietary batteries.
A good place to learn about this:

I used to use a battery pack for my 540EZ until NiMH became popular. It's a
lot easier carrying a couple extra sets of them than that heavy battery
pack. Of course, I haven't used the 540EZ in several years now since it's
not very compatible with Canon DSLR.
