Hi
For a couple of years I have had a network wired and wireless, I have a linksy wireless router and a d-link AP on the network, all has worked fine until a couple of days ago. My laptop can see the wireless network connect and then it loses it, the strength is fine 54m connection and then its gone a few minutes later its back. I have a toshiba laptop that has a network finder and it has a radar type screen, on this you can see the network come in and then go away?. I have no idea what is going on, can someone please point me in the right direction. Thanks yar |

A few things you may want to check:
Are you using Windows XP Service Pack 2 and are you using authentication on your Wireless network? Have you set your wireless adapter to connect to access point (infrastructure) networks only? Have you changed your default out-of-the-cox SSID to something unique and ensured that this SSID is at the top of the 'preferred networks' list? -- All the best, Ryan Younger. http://spaces.msn.com/members/wirelessnetworking/ - Ryan's Wireless Networking Weblog "yar" <> wrote in message news:%... > Hi > > For a couple of years I have had a network wired and wireless, I have a > linksy wireless router and a d-link AP on the network, all has worked fine > until a couple of days ago. > > My laptop can see the wireless network connect and then it loses it, the > strength is fine 54m connection and then its gone a few minutes later its > back. > > I have a toshiba laptop that has a network finder and it has a radar type > screen, on this you can see the network come in and then go away?. > > I have no idea what is going on, can someone please point me in the right > direction. > > Thanks > Ryan Younger |

Okay sp2 xp pro have changed ssid my network at top.
All has worked fine for two years, only thing I have noticed is that there are a couple of extra networks in the area. What channel are you currently using? You can use Netstumbler to view the
channel's that the AP's in your vicinity are using. If possible you should try and use a channel that is at least 3 away from those AP's nearest to you: http://www.netstumbler.com/ Once you have changed the channel you are using, this should minimise the chance of you being 'blackholed' by other AP's (you should have also set your wireless adapter to infrastructure only mode, so that adhocs cannot cause you any issues). -- All the best, Ryan Younger. http://spaces.msn.com/members/wirelessnetworking/ - Ryan's Wireless Networking Weblog "yar" <> wrote in message news:u$... > Okay sp2 xp pro have changed ssid my network at top. > > All has worked fine for two years, only thing I have noticed is that there > are a couple of extra networks in the area. > > > > "Ryan Younger" <> wrote in message > news:... >>A few things you may want to check: >> >> Are you using Windows XP Service Pack 2 and are you using authentication >> on your Wireless network? Hi
I have just got the linksy working but I can not get the d-link 2100 ap working. I have upgraded the firmware but it does not seem to retain the settings. Any thoughts "Ryan Younger" <> wrote in message news:%... > What channel are you currently using? You can use Netstumbler to view the > channel's that the AP's in your vicinity are using.
