Hey folks. I'm writing a book on the Treo 600 smartphone, and I'd
like to include pictures of the phone, as well as its various
accessories. I'd love to learn how to do the photography myself,
rather than simply to outsource this to a professional. However, I'd
first like to ask this group what kind of financial (and temporal)
commitment I might be stepping into!
For example, I'd like to be able to take pictures that are of the
quality found in this review:

Here, the product is sitting on a glistening white surface with
nothing in the background. For all intensive purposes, it appears as
if it is floating, with an ever-so-slight shadow here and there. This
kind of image is exactly what I'm seeking.
Is this something I can accomplish with a standard digicam (I was
considering using the DiMAGE A1, coincidentally), and a small amount
of studio equipment? Or will I unquestionably have to purchase an
expensive lighting kit and fancy accessories that might just make this
one-time shoot better for the pros? Your advice is greatly
appreciated.
Thanks very much,
-Jeff
