Default xD picture card - write protected?

Hi,

Hope this group is appropriate for my problem. I have 2 xD cards (16/64MB)
and a card reader. The 16MB one works fine in the reader and I can do
pretty much whatever I'd like to. However the 64MB one tells me the card is
write protected if I try to add or delete anything.
I can format the card fine from my camera (fuji a204).

So is there any way to get rid of this write protect error?
Cheers,
Chris

ps. just in case some xD cards are different - mine don't have write
protect/enable switches on the card!

I use an xD card in my Olympus C-5000. I note that you can write
protect individual images. With my card reader, the card looks like a
mass storage device, and I can read and erase images from it on the
PC. Have you looked at the "properties" of the device when it is
plugged in/card in reader? Is the "read only" attribute set? That
might be a place to start.

When I bought my 256 card it wouldn't work in my reader. A call to the
vendor resulted in a new flash that corrected the problem. The card was
fine, the reader was just built before the 256 protocol was established.

Perhaps this is your problem?

Hmm, could be something similar I guess, but the card is quite old now and
maybe not worth the bother as it's only 64MB and quite cheap. Thanks tho!

Cheers,
Chris

You can write protect files on the card via camera ( Olympus c-450) write
protecting one file may write protect the whole card . a similar feature
must exist on the Fuji camera. no all the cards are the same
