coolpix 2100 usb fails. need card reader suggestions

hello. I have the coolpix 2100 and it fails to work when I hook up the usb
cable. After searching google I found many posts with the same problem. Im
tempted to return the camera but I really like it so far. I was wondering if
theres a certain brand card reader that works better than the others? I plan
to order from newegg.com. Also would this flash card work in my camera?
