Help in controller design

Hello to all
In part of my course i need to do one small project.
iam planning to develop a general controller structure( using vhdl)for
NoC(network on chip).
i think many different embedded controller structures are already
existing.
if anybody knows some information or links to read about controller
designs , please post me.
so that it will be very helpful for me .
