Calif Idiots want to tax Voip

The California Pubic Ulitilites Commission has served notice on Vonage
and other Voip companies that they have to submit applications to become
California telephone companies.

Being a advid watcher of the California Commission for years, I can
safely say the only thing they want are the various California taxes on
telephone service to apply to California Voip users.

In my case, although I am a resident of California, my Vonage telephone
number is in Ohio. I suppose if I move my service address to my
daugher's home in Cleveland, Emperor Gray Davis's socialist storm
troopers will raid her house.

I bet Vonage is going to lose this one. On
http://www.vonage.com/corporate/aboutus_fastfacts.php
Vonage has confessed to a strong "presence" in the Golden State:

Regional Data Center Locations
San Jose, CA Los Angeles, CA Indianapolis, IN
Dallas, TX Houston, TX Milwaukee, WI
Cambridge, MA Atlanta, GA
Chicago, IL Philadelphia, PA
Denver, CO Nashville, TN
Newark, NJ Burbank, CA
New York, NY Greensboro, NC

California will apply every possible tax it can get away with,
including some no doubt in conflict with the US Constitution's
proscription against levys on interstate commerce.

I guess it's probably fair for California to be consistent.
Personally, I'd prefer no taxes, state or federal, on phone calls of
any type. It's just a money grab.

Yeah, but the tax will appear on the customer's bill. Doesn't seem quite
right when I have my Cleveland, Ohio number working on my DSL in Hawaii for
several weeks, then in Arizona at times, then California at times.

california.

Can't argue with that. But, some of us have no effective choice especially
since soon-to-be-former King Davis had our U.S. citizenships cancelled.
