Limewire - what is it...how to get rid of it.

good day...i am helping a friend clean up a PC his kids were using.
there is an app on there called Limewire that looks like a file
sharing program. i try to uninstall it and i get errors saying it
can't uninstall it.

how can i get rid of this program?? can i just kill the folder and
then run an anti-spyware tool to get the rest?

It's a music download service - the music is free but the downloader costs
($10, I think). Serious competition for iTunes... It loads on bootup, runs
in the system tray. Not exactly stealthy, but does take up resources.
Killing it from its GUI doesn't work. Start by right-clicking its icon in
the system tray and hitting "Exit", then try removing it again. You can
also kill its autostart function with Autoruns.exe (free download).

I've never heard it described as spyware, but it does get annoying.

Yes, Limewire is a popular filesharing program. Sounds like the
uninstall option got messed up. If ad-remove can't get rid of it maybe
try re-installing the original software then try ad-remove again.

Not really. iTunes is legal.
The people who want to use illegal tools often just won't pay anything
at all, and the illegal tools don't generate faithfulness; users just
want to get lots of music free.

As opposed to the record companies who just want to rip off consumers
and artists alike by charging grossly over inflated prices where-ever
they can get away with it as they have been doing for decades.
Limewire is a filesharing program and a very good one. You can get
music , films, software all at the click of a mouse. Limewire is free
and it shouldn't be hard to track down a copy, just google for it.

Record companies are legitmate businesses. Nobody is pointing a gun to
to your head forcing you to buy the CDs they produce. The prices they
charge for albums is the price that makes them the most profit. All
legit sales based on supply and demand.

Because purchasing their product is optional, a luxury.
You DECIDE whether their price is fair based on what it would give you
in return. To most people, $10 an album is worth the value they get in
return. If it isn't, they don't buy it.
That makes sense to you, doesn't it?

Look at gasoline -- yes, it's expensive, but people decide whether it
has value for them at that price and buy it. Some reduce how much
driving they will do. Others buy only from the cheapest sources.
People don't open tankers and just take what they want, claiming it's
justified because someone along the way makes more money than they
think is sociable.

On the other hand, many of these same people make _heroes_ out of
drug-promoting, violent, selfish and criminal jackasses like pop
athletes and musicians. How do you justify that?
Isn't it at least more acceptable socially to add a dollar to a CD
price than it is to double the price of game tickets so three guys on
the team can make ten million dollars per season? What if those guys
have been arrested for domestic violence, battery, firing guns in
public, drug possession, and shoplifting?
If you are really doing this to make a social point, isn't there a
better place to make your objection?
Or are you just rationalizing a crime that benefits you?
