Why not just put the check in and delete everything all at once?

The only reason being is that I'm not sure if it works that way, so I just do
both.
Anyone confirm this?
I guess I could do some experimenting, but since it only takes an extra second
or two for me to do it both ways, I will probably just keep doing both.
