Ad-Aware SE Personal error

I use Win98 SE, OE6 and IE6

I also have CWShredder, Spybot Search&Destroy, Ad-Aware SE Personal,
SpyBlaster and ZoneAlarm.

Ad-Aware SE Personal has been very good to me for about two years, but
yesterday when I went to open it I got the following error:

"This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.
If the problem persists, contact the vendor".

Details show "Ad-Aware caused an exception eedfadeH in module (unknown)
at 0000.00000000

When I press close it says "Exception EReadError in Module
AD-AWARE.EXE bei 00021FE7. A line underneath this is in German.

I think this fault co-incided with the download of a Windows Security
Update for Jview Profiler, KB903235. I know now that that was only
intended for XP which has SP2, so how it came to be available to me with
Win98 SE in Windows Update I don't know.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled Ad-Aware SE Personal 1.06 but without
success.

I also downloaded ver. 1.05 to a new folder in the belief that fragments
of the old file were causing trouble, but that did not help.

Most of what I have done has been with all programs, windows, antivirus,
ZoneAlarm and other systray icons, closed.

I have tried SCANREG /RESTORE to a prior date, but that was
ineffective.

Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Emrys Davies.

Uninstalling and re-installing the affected program is not
enough. What really needs to be uninstalled are all of the
updates or new programs that had installed since the last
time Ad-Aware had worked satisfactorily. There is some new
system file, including updated *.dll files, that is causing
a conflict. And Win98 is quite vulnerable to such faults.

You think he has too much security? I got a bridge you may want to buy!!

I have found a definite reference to my problem and it looks rather
involved to say the least. Will have a good read of it tomorrow and
hopefully will find the answer to it in there somewhere.

Download Hijack this, run it, save a copy of the log file and cut and paste
it back here to the group so that it can be analyzed.
