I have just downloaded the free 12 month trial from ez antivirus (computer
associates) via the microsoft recommends partners webpage but I've not yet installed it as I'mll using Norton which does not expire just yet - still a few weeks to go. But please tell me if ez antivirus is a good and safe option compared to other leading brands? I have read many good things about Kaspersky recently. I wonder if this is also available as a free trial? Which is best? melanie melanie |

Yes, use Kasersky. 30 days free trial, then pay to use. It's worth it. =?ISO-8859-1?Q?R=F4g=EAr?= |

But please tell me if ez antivirus is a good and safe That's not a reason not to swap over just now. Never had any problems, liked the trial , that was quite a while ago and I am coming up for my 2nd annual renewal for ez soon. >option compared to other leading brands? Check the Kaspersky site maybe? http://www.kaspersky.com/index.html Downloads -> http://www.kaspersky.com/downloads See the list -> Downloads Antivirus Database Updates Virus Removal Tools ----> Trial Versions -> http://www.kaspersky.com/trials Product Downloads Documentation Extra Database Options Beta-Testing >Which is best? You could try searching www.google.com for reviews of the products you are interested in. Many places run multiproduct comparison tests. >melanie > > Me why? |

Free use period: CA eTrust EzAntiVirus 12-month free use Kasperksy Antivirus 1-month trial VirusBulletin 100% tests: CA eTrust EzAntiVirus 20 successes, 11 failures, 9 no entries Grisoft AVG 9 successes, 11 failures, 11 no entries Alwil Avast! 13 successes, 19 failures, 9 no entries H+BEDV AntiVir 6 successes, 8 failures, 26 no entries Kaspersky Antivirus 27 successes, 13 failures, 0 no entries Symantec AntiVirus 28 successes, 6 failures, 6 no entries EzAntirus failed 36% of the times it got tested. Kaspersky failed 33% of the times it got tested. AVG, Avast!, and were listed to show how freebies fared: then failed 55%, 59%, and 57%, respectively, of the times it got tested. Symantec failed 18% of the times it got tested. VirusBulletin's archives are at http://www.virusbtn.com/vb100/archives/index.xml (but now you have to register, which is free). The numbers above only show the historical pass/fail testing of each product and may not be representative of its current coverage. Another indicator is to see how many consecutive passes there were for an AV product (i.e., they may have improved and been passing for quite awhile). See http://www.av-comparatives.org/ for coverage (but they only test every 6 months and not all AV products are listed). Vanguard |

Since windows will most of the time block deleting of files-in-use, the "failed" numbers are unimportant. You have to use "safe mode" or a special remover to get rid of the virus. Now it comes to the "no entries". Only the one with "0" is the best scanner at the time of the test. > > Thanks Vanguard - seems that none are absolutely perfect so will try the > ez > anti virus, there's not a lot of difference I don't suppose! Don't solely rely on any antivirus product. Use your brain, that's most effective. You can also keep a smiling face with using linux -- Longhorn error#4711: TCPA / NGSCP VIOLATION: Microsoft optical mouse detected penguin patterns on mousepad. Partition scan in progress *to*remove*offending*incompatible*products.**Reactivate*MS*software. Linux woodpecker.homnet.at 2.6.11-mm4[LinuxCounter#295241,ICQ#4918962] Walter Mautner |

It's the only AV I recommend to clients, unless they insist on free-ware. I personally would never touch Norton or McAfee or any name brand, in the early days of Windows Norton was very good these days it's become too bloated and over priced IMO. I've never tried Kaspersky so I can't comment but over the years EZ has never given me any trouble and it has caught all the 'nasties' that have tried to get onto my PC over the years. Of course there's other very good packages out there as well, no AV is perfect and you do have to properly secure your system and use common sense. That said you certainly can't beat the 1 year trial MS is offering. I'd give it a try, if you don't like it then you can always uninstall it and try something else Just my 2 cents.. Use the second as a double check now and then. But keep both up to date. In other words, even if somebody tells you that application X is the best for viruses/trojans, none of them, even the best, are guaranteed to catch everything. It doesn't matter if you are using payfor or free antivirus either. Two free anti-virus apps can perform as well as 2 payfor anti-virus apps. -- http://www.bootdisk.com/ Plato |
