It did it because you left it switched on or attached during installation - whether there was a disk in it is immaterial. You *MUST* switch off or disconnect all external drives durning installation. In answer to your question, no, there is not. You *MUST* perform a clean installation with the drive disconnected. Don't listen to Duane, he is a ****tard of the 'highest' order and, obviously, has never tried to follow his own 'advice'. If he had, he would know that Windows would prevent that course of action as the boot partition *cannot* be remapped without a clean installation. Miss Perspicacia Tick |

I had that happen too, it's a real pain in the a*se. Can't change installation drive letter, doesn't work (though some places claim it does sometimes). Had to re-format, but this time rather than let the XP installation do the format (which for some unknown reason turns the C to F), I formatted with win98se floppy, so I could make sure the disc was definitely set to C initially. Then let the installation upgrade to NTFS. Think the problem was something to do with 4 usb ports for external drives, though the drives were never connected. aleX |

Could be Spyware trying to hijack you. Download, install, update and run all
of the following. Ad-Aware http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/ Spybot search and destroy http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/ Microsoft Windows AntiSpyware (Beta) http://www.microsoft.com/athome/secu...e/default.mspx If none of the above fixes the issue then download Hijack this, run it, save a copy of the log file and cut and paste it back here to the group so that it can be analyzed. HijackThis http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html -- The moron Mike wrote: > After lurking here for a while ... Actually this is a known issue with Zip drives.
Unfortunatley, you will have to completely reload Windows. This time, before you install Windows, disconnect the zip drive. I normally just remove the ribbon cable. Once the zip drive has been disconnected, do a complete fresh install of Windows. It should detect your HD as drive C: this time. Once Windows is installed, turn the system off and recconect the zip drive. Windows will detect it and all will be fine. You can use the built-in drive mangement to re-assign any letter to any volume EXCEPT the boot partition.
