Operation Timeout - FireFox

Dial Up ISP
Windows XP

Sometimes when attempting to access a website, I get the message

The operation timed out when attempting to contact www.blahblah.com

Can this time setting be changed so that the browser's attempts are longer
and I don't get this most annoying message?

Yes. I think you can. You could type in your browser interface
'about:config' but that may be too much for some. I think.
