I have recently bought a new computer from e-bay with Windows XP Pro
installed, and a cd with it copied to. The problem I have is that after
loading Panda a/v , downloading windows updates, then re booting for updates
to install, on restarting there's a log in screen asking for a password. I
have not entered a password in the system when I first used the PC. Since I
cannot proceed any further without a password I sought advice which
explained that I will have to re-install windows. This I did, and during
set-up I put in a password, and all went fine until the same thing happened
as above, log in screen popped up, typed the new password in, nothing, would
not accept it, Had to re install again this time did not enter anything for
password, same thing happened on re boot, still asks for p/w, press enter
without entering anything, nothing happens just asking for p/w. This has
happened five times now am at breaking point. If anybody could please help
me I would be extremely grateful. As it is, my new computer is useless in
this condition.

I know this may be a long shot, but did you re-install Windows on top of
itself, or did you format the drive first? (the only way to format an NTFS
disk, is to go into windows xp setup from boot, and delete the partition
that comes up when prompted.) if you re-installed itself on top of itself,
that could be your problem right there.

anyone else have any ideas?

I have booted from the cd, set a new partition and formatted that partition
but still have the problem.
