Did you previously have dial-up? Did you keep it for a 'backup' connection?
If not, disable dial-up networking:

Start / Control Panel / Internet Options / Connections tab - click on the
button in front of "Never dial..."

Im with bt too and get the dialup window .I click on 'dial 'and away it
goes.
