I have a cable modem from NTL.
I want to run my laptop via a wireless router, what cables do I use to get
the system running.
I have bought a Belkin ADSL wireless router but cant see where the Ethernet
cable from the modem to the router goes

basically, you got the wrong router, you need a Cable/DSL router, not an
ADSL one. A Cable/DSL router has an ethernet WAN port, which is where your
cable modem connects to.

I suspect that your router has a built in ADSL modem and probably only has a
connection for the phone line connection via a lead terminated with an RJ-11
plug. If this is the case you need a different router that has an RJ-45
style network port for the WAN link from the NTL cable modem.

Thinking on it now you are probably right.
I have an Ethernet cable coming from the cable modem, on the other end of
the Ethernet cable is exactly the same connector which will not fit in to
the router.

Surely you need a cable/DSL router rather than an ADSL router. BB

All you need is an eathernet cable from the router to the laptop

Make sure your router is of and the laptop then plug the cable both into the
laptop and your laptop

switch on the router and then the laptop.

Then bingo you're off
