Random HDD loading and minimising

Hi there
For a while now my WinXP PC has been doing something incredibly annoying. At
a random point ( roughly once an hour) the HDD will load frantically for not
reason for about 30 secs. Any programs running full screen will be
minimised, and i have often noticed some very soft double clicks coming from
the speakers (not the noise the mouse makes. This causes any demanding
programs (CD burner, games, DVDs) to be crashed because it runs out of RAM.
This seems to be completely random. There are no triggers, no explanations,
and i have turned off ALL programs running in the background. It will do it
even when there is nothing but windows running.

Start here:

Then, download, update and use ALL of the following -- even
if you already have them installed, UPDATE THEM NOW.
Malware changes by the day, even by the hour, so you MUST
have the latest version of removal tools:

Spybot Search & Destroy

SpyBot S&D guide

Ad-Aware SE

Ad-Aware VX2 cleaner plug-in

IMPORTANT NOTICE:

Spyware Blaster

CWShredder (CoolWebSearch remover)

Now maintained by InterMute

Once you have completed that, scan your system with
at least two different online antivirus scanners:
