Sorry if this shows up twice, google groups beta 2 seems to be in a bad
mood

I have a laptop with winXP Home SP2, that for some reason came to
password screen and all accounts were locked out. Using EBCD password
recovery to unlock the accounts, it logs in, then right away logs out.
No flash of desktop icons, I see wallpaper for a second, that's it
Any suggestions

Thanks

Have you by chance moved the install of XP to a new hard drive that may
have a different drive letter assignment? For example, copying an
installation off of a D: drive to a C: drive will cause what you are
describing because, at the point of login, the OS will try to load things
from D: ... and fail.

It's somebody else's machine. I installed it myself off a winxp disk
to c (freshly dban'd and formatted) I don't think they'd go into
anything that would edit drive assignments.
