Hi
recently did a clean install of XP Pro. First thing I did was install SP-1.
Noticed lights on modem flahing. (Lan) Opened task manager, noticed
unfamiliar process. PDSched.exe. Terminated process and modem quit flashing.
Then Angel fire web page starts opening on its own. Did Google search. Angel
fire has not been a big issue lately. Not sure if I actually fixed it or
not. Can find no helpfull information on this PDSched.exe. Computer is
brutally slow. Have done many virus scans (on-line) all clean. Ran adaware
and spybot. Spybot keeps finding same 5 problems and says it has fixed them.
It hasn't.
Every time pc is started the process is as well. Can anyone advise what I
might try next? TIA, Dan.

heres what you should have done
1)slipstream sp1 into the xp cd
(http://www.neowin.net/articles.php?action=more&id=46)
2)format hard drive (use NTFS unless you need a win9x to beable to read the
drive)
3)install xp (don't have the computer connected to the internet when
installing)
4)before doing anything install a firewall and antivirus (I suggest symantec
antivirus corporate edition 9)
5) after the firewall and that are installed..connect to the net and update
windows and drivers

you got viruses on there because..as hard as it is to beleive..you got a
virus in the short time it took to install your sp1 and updates...I learned
this a while ago..cause if I had the computer connected to the internet
while installing xp...I would almost for sure have a virus or something
see what happens..especially on cables isp networks is that some stupid
newbie will have the viruses on there computer and not know it...and what
this viruse does is port scan for other people on the ISP's network for open
ports ..then send out the viruses to any open ports

Thanks Mike. No more PDSched.exe. Computer is still not as fast as it should
be. And GoGeta, I have SP-1 on a cd. I did install without internet
connection. Firewall was enabled the first time windows started. Thanks
anyway.

By any chance, do you use Panda Anti-Virus? For some reason, I'm thinking
it is a product distributed with some Windows applications, and that may be
what is running.

Good luck!

No I don't use Panda. That's all I have to say about anti-virus software.
Lol.

Just wondering, I've found it installed on my system before without me
installing it, it came embedded with something else I suppose. Just the
name of the scheduler program that you had running made me curious.

It isn't my choice in AV either....
