I have a notebook computer with Win 98SE installed. The machine has froze
up with the message "Windows is shutting down". No matter how many times I restart the machine it still comes up to this shutdown screen. I suspect that when I hit the power button I am putting it into standby mode. How do I get the machine to cold boot? I have even tried a floppy startup disk and nothing seems to get rid of the shutdown screen. Please help if you can as my wife has her doll collection data on this machine and I am getting glared at!! David McEwan |

I solved the problem by disconnecting the battery from the computer. I will
make some changes based on the help provided. "David McEwan" <> wrote in message news > I have a notebook computer with Win 98SE installed.
