Default WindowsXP

Keep having a problem if PC left on for a length of time. 'Preparing to
stand by...." shows on the screen and the only way out is to reboot. Any
reason why ?

If no help there, disable it for now.

Start, Settings, Control Panel; Power Management.
Power Scheme: Always On
System Standby: Never
Turn Off Monitor: Never
Turn Off hard drives: Never
"Apply", "OK"

Look for a setting in the BIOS too. Disable it.
